How can meaningful connections deepen understanding of the “text”?
Meaning connections deepen understanding by allowing you to think about the events, or people in your life and see what they are going through and relate it to the story. You can assume things that you might know from your experiences that could be going on in the book. Then you can look back into the book for evidence of what you assumed and see if you were right. In mathematics, some of the “texts” that a teacher would use would be a calculator, protractor, ruler, and obviously the math textbooks of that specific class. Students can make a connection with a calculator because children like to play video games and a calculator can be like a video game and the student can relate to it and enjoy learning about it. Also with math textbooks, there are many examples that relate to real life problems and students can make connections with problems in their lives that maybe they could find the answers in the book.

What is true for me about reading?
I have found that reading in Mathematics is not just reading the math textbook. Rather it can be reading a calculator, reading a graph, or reading a ruler. These are all very important aspect to math and without being able to read these different things, students could not be literate in mathematics. Students and teachers alike do not enjoy reading calculators or rulers, so a purpose for reading these materials needs to be given.

Who am I?
I am a sophomore in college at Evangel University perusing a degree in mathematics education. I enjoy the outdoors and seeing the beauty that God has created. I love participating in any and every sport or physical activity. I enjoy hanging out with friends and getting to know new people. I want to travel outside of the United States and I want to visit a warm beach. I am shy, but once I meet people, I am very outgoing and sociable. I grew up on a farm and am considered a country girl.

What makes a hero? Who is mine?

I think that a hero is someone who will die for you or someone else. They have good character and morals. They are self-less, have courage, sacrifice, hope. Someone who is just a normal person. Everyone can be a hero to anyone, and sometimes you need to be a hero to yourself.

My hero is my mother because she has raised six children, has sacrificed many different things for her children, worked extra so that I was able to go to a Christian high school, and to pay for extra things that I may have wanted to do. She is loving, has strong moral character, and loves God.
